Rooted in a world older than any other writings in the Hebrew Scriptures, Job has frustrated readers for years. The questions it asks are only part of the problem, because the answers are even more frustrating than the questions. On February 4, 2017, we will begin the journey into a world where the lines of righteousness and unrighteousness are blurred, where God appears to grant Satan the power to bring unmitigated grief and the voices that rise to answer questions are shadowed and hollow.
The God who emerges is not the comfortable, all-beneficent God of our Christian imaginations but a God of whirlwinds and storms who calls us to account for the words spoken in his name. This is not for the faint of heart; and it will call us all to question the very core of our worldview and expectations of our God.
